Surat police arrested a 58-year-old real estate developer for allegedly obstructing traffic on a public road by bursting firecrackers to celebrate his son’s birthday, officials said on Wednesday.
The incident took place on December 21 near Langar Circle in Dumas area. A video of the celebration, which later went viral on social media, shows the developer stopping vehicles and bursting firecrackers on the busy stretch.
The accused has been identified as Deepak Ijardar, a resident of Sultanabad. In the video, he is seen holding firecrackers and stopping traffic on the occasion of his son Dhyey Ijardar’s birthday.
After police came to know about the video, Dumas police station registered a case and arrested Mr. Deepak Ijardar. He was later released on bail.
An official report said firecrackers were burst on a public road near the post office in front of his residence, causing inconvenience to commuters and violating the police commissioner’s notification.
According to the police, a case has been registered under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with disobeying orders duly promulgated by public servants.
