The Supreme Court on Monday (Dec 15, 2025) protected actors Shreyas Talpade and Alok Nath from arrest pending investigation into a case of cheating and breach of trust against the company.
During the hearing before a Bench of Justices BV Nagarathna and R. Mahadevan, counsel for Mr. Talpade said the actor was invited as a celebrity guest at the company’s annual function. “I’m not supposed to know. I’ve never made any money,” the lawyer said.
Mr. Nath’s lawyer said the actor had not attended any event and his photo had been used for 10 years.
“If a top actor or cricketer gives his advertisement or acts as a brand ambassador of a corporate company which is going into liquidation or criminal proceedings are pending against the company, will it also go against the cricketer or actor?” We dispose of this writ petition (filed by Talpad) by continuing the interim order of protection from arrest granted by us until the criminal investigation against the Bench petition is completed.
The Supreme Court was hearing pleas filed by Mr. Talpad and Mr. Nath for clubbing FIRs registered in different states in connection with the case.
Thirteen people, including Mr. Talpade and Mr. Nath, were booked following a complaint by 37-year-old Sonipat resident Vipul Antil.
Mr Antil claimed that the two actors were “promoting the Human Welfare Credit Cooperative Society Ltd, as brand ambassadors”.
About the two actors, the police said, “It was alleged that they were its brand ambassadors and the victims were lured to invest because of such personalities. They have been named in the complaint. An FIR has been registered. Now what was their role will be investigated.” The FIR was registered on January 22 under Sections 316 (2), 318 (2) and 318 (4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, for various offences, including criminal breach of trust and cheating.
Police claimed the company had committed a “serious crime of defrauding the public through financial schemes”.
