The Supreme Court on Monday (May 4, 2026) sought a report from the Karnataka government on a plea filed by Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, who is in custody in the 2024 Renukaswamy murder casethe alleged denial of basic amenities to which inmates are entitled on trial.
A bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and R. Mahadevan directed the state to submit its report within a week. “We would like to know from the state whether the petitioner is being provided with the basic amenities to which a prisoner is entitled in the trial or not. The registry will ensure that relevant reports are received within a week,” the Bench said.
