On Friday (July 18, 2025), the Central Government presented a fake social media account in the Karnataka High Court, created by its officials on the Social Media platform on behalf of the “Supreme Court in Karnataka” – an institution that does not exist – to prove how easy to create and disgust.
The account that was verified by X was created exclusively for demonstrative purposes, the general lawyer of India Tushar Mehta clarified the court and at the same time pointed to a mobile phone. “We opened one account on behalf of the” Supreme Court of Karnataka “… and x also verified the account. Now I can publish anything and lakhs and lakhs people who perceive that the Supreme Court of Karnataka said … and I can stay anonymous,” said Mr. Mehta.
Laying was carried out before Judge M. Nagaprasann during hearing the petition filed X Corp. (formerly Twitter Inc.), which questioned the blocking of orders issued by central and state authorities pursuant to Section 79 of the Act on Information Technology. The platform claimed that these measures were circumventing the Supreme Court.
“Portal of Censorship”
The petition also raises objections to the new “Sahyda” portal of the central government and describes it as a “censorship portal”, which allows government agencies to issue blocking orders using a pre -approved template.
Senior advocate KG Raghavan, who appeared for X, protested against a false account presentation without formally noticing any related material. The judge, however, noted that the center tried to show how easy such accounts can be created on mediating platforms.
Mr. Mehta further explained that the account was not used and remained inactive because he would otherwise enter the public domain. He added that the intention was only to prove the potential abuse of any social media platform, not only X.
“Account Suspered”
After the arguments of Mr. Mehta defending portal Sahyog and the blocking orders Mr. Raghavan informed the court that a fake account called “Supreme Court in Karnataka” was now suspended. He reiterated that X is a “responsible department store”.
