Fans of the imprisoned engineer Rashid, 57, who heads the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) and is a member of the parliament (MEP) of North Kashmir’s Baramulla on Monday (August 25, 2025) on Monday (August 25, 2025).

The protesting AIP leaders said that Mr. Rashid’s imprisonment “despite great public support is the unfair and travesty of justice”.
Mr. Rashid’s supporters called the ongoing detention of the deputy as “attack on democracy” and “attempt to undermine the mandate” of people from Jamm and Kashmir.

Mr. Rashid was defeated by the Vice President of the National Conference (NC) Omar Abdullah in the elections to Parliament 2024 and attacked elections from prison. In 2019 he was arrested and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) slapped the accusation of “terrorist financing” according to the provisions of the Act on Unlawful Activities (Prevention) (UAPA) against him.
