Superfan Congo finally arrives in the US, aura farms at the World Cup
The Democratic Republic of Congo finally had its most recognized supporter in the stands at the FIFA World Cup. But the arrival of Michel Kuka Mboladinga was not enough to inspire the result they wanted.
Mboladinga, better known as “Lumumba Vea”, arrived in Guadalajara, Mexico on Tuesday ahead of DR Congo’s Group C clash against Colombia. He missed the team’s opening match of the tournament against Portugal, where the team held Cristiano Ronaldo’s side to a draw.
WHO IS DR CONGO SUPER FAN?
Mboladinga rose to global fame during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, gaining notoriety for his unusual match ritual. Dressed in a jacket and tie in tribute to the first prime minister of the Republic of the Congo, Patrice Lumumba, Mboladinga stands perfectly still on the podium with his arm raised – recreating the pose associated with the icon of Congolese independence.
His appearance became one of the first talking points of the World Cup after his arrival at the tournament was delayed by travel restrictions linked to the Ebola outbreak. But while Mboladinga took his place in the stands, DR Congo failed to create another memorable moment on the pitch.

DR CONGO LOSES 0:1 TO COLOMBIA
Daniel Munoz scored the decisive goal in the 76th minute as Colombia beat DR Congo 1-0 to book their place in the round of 32 with a game in hand.
DR Congo has frustrated one of South America’s most exciting teams for a long time.
Colombia dominated possession and repeatedly came forward through James Rodriguez, Luis Diaz and Jhon Arias, but goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi produced one of the standout performances of the tournament so far.
Mpasi produced save after save to deny Colombia and briefly give DR Congo hope of overcoming one of the shocks of the competition.
But Juan Quintero eventually unlocked the defense with a running pass to Munoz as he applied pressure and the defender squeezed his finish past Mpasi to break the Congolese resistance.
The result leaves Colombia with six points and safely through to the knockout stages alongside Portugal.
For DR Congo, the equation remains simple. Beating Uzbekistan in the final match of the group stage and qualification may still be within reach.
And if that happens, Mboladinga – standing motionless among thousands – could have one more night to remember at this World Cup.
