Two straight-match wins ensured that India walked away with both singles trophies, capping off a remarkable campaign at the US$500,000 tournament. For Lakshya, the win was especially significant after a season marred by injuries and inconsistent performances. The 25-year-old reached the final of the All England Championships earlier this year but has struggled to maintain that level in subsequent tournaments.

Lakshya dominates Christie to end the title drought

The men’s singles final initially developed into a very competitive match with both players engaging in quick rallies and exchanging powerful smashes.Lakshya started aggressively and took an 8-4 lead, using sharp cross court angles and attacking strokes to push Christie down the court. However, the Indonesian responded with a five-point run to advance 9-8.The Indian recovered and gradually gained control thanks to solid defense, deceptive net play and well-directed smashes. He held his nerve in the final exchanges to win the opening game 21-17.The second match was far more one-sided. Lakshya turned up the intensity, capitalizing on Christie’s unforced errors while dominating the rally with excellent movement and shot selection. The Indian repeatedly neutralized the attacking strikes of the Indonesians and turned the defense into counter-attacking opportunities. Christie struggled to find answers as Lakshya extended his advantage and eventually sealed the game 21-10 to clinch the title. The win also tied Lakshya’s career hitting record against Christie at 4-4.

Sindhu leads India’s double title celebration

Sindhu set the tone for India’s title win Sunday by defeating Kjærsfeldt in the women’s singles final. It was Sindhu’s second title of the season after her triumph at the Japan Open in July. She also finished runner-up at the French Open last week, making the Hylo Open victory another significant boost to her late-season campaign. The Indian title also earned her 9,200 ranking points, keeping her in contention to qualify for the season-ending BWF World Tour Finals.Lakshya also spoke about rediscovering his rhythm after an injury-interrupted period following his semi-final win.“I messed up a few times here and there and was out for a while. I wasn’t quite 100 percent in some tournaments. But I’m happy with how I played here. It’s a really good confidence booster because I haven’t played that many matches in a row in the last few months,” he said.“I’m really happy to get to another final. I think it’s the first time since the All England Championships that I’ve felt like I’m playing really well again. I can feel myself getting back into my rhythm and playing good badminton.”Sindhu and Lakshya finished on the podium and India secured a memorable double at the Hylo Open, with the two leading shuttlers providing a timely boost ahead of the final stretch of the badminton season.
