Priya Sachdeva Kapur has filed a defamation complaint against late business tycoon Sunjay Kapur’s sister Mandhiru Kapur Smith and another person, alleging that a series of remarks against her in various podcasts, social media, media interviews and other platforms constitute a sustained and deliberate effort to malign her reputation, according to an ANI report.
A complaint has been filed with the Additional Chief Justice stating that the remarks include false statements, innuendoes and personal attacks passed off as factual despite being a sub-judicial matter, causing considerable reputational damage, he added.
What does the complaint say?
Priya Kapur is represented by Senior Advocate Maninder Singh and Advocate Smriti Asmita. The complaint states that the material circulating in the public domain promotes misleading narratives and allegations aimed at defaming and harassing Priya Kapoor through public discourse instead of legal remedies.
Maninder Singh argued that such conduct precisely falls under the offense of defamation under the relevant law.
The case was handled by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate at the Patiala House Courts in New Delhi, where the complaint was formally registered.
What did Sunjay Kapur’s sister claim?
The filing of the defamation case follows recent related proceedings in which the court required the actor and Kapoor’s ex-wife Karisma Kapoor to respond to Priya Kapur’s request for certified copies of divorce-related court records pertaining to the late industrialist, the report said.
In this context, Mandhira Kapur Smith has publicly questioned Priya Kapur’s behavior and motives in media statements. She said that if her brother had planned to share certain information, he would have done so during the marriage. She also noted that divorce proceedings are confidential, especially when it comes to children, she added.
Priya Kapur claims these statements are part of the defamatory material she has complained about and through senior advocate Maninder Singh has sought a criminal action in court to deal with the alleged damage to her reputation.

The case also comes between Sunjay Kapoor ₹30,000 crore case where Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira and Kiaan Raj, challenged the authenticity of their late father’s alleged will before the Delhi High Court, ANI reported. The will of his estate is said to stand ₹30,000 million crowns.
The children reportedly claimed that there were “obvious errors” in the document and it could not have been prepared by him, news agency PTI reported.
