
Scorching summer heat drove up electricity consumption in April, causing anxious moments in the state’s power sector.
On April 13, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) recorded a daily consumption of 112.16 million units (mu) and a peak consumption of 5,933 megawatts (MW). Peak demand is the highest on record for the state, according to load dispatch data. The previous record demand was 5,802 MW, recorded on March 25 this year. However, the state’s all-time highest daily consumption remains at 115.94 mu, recorded on 3 May 2024. Kerala recorded daily consumption of 101.51 mu on 12 April, 106.88 mu on 11 April and 107.7 mu on 10 April.
