
New Delhi, Feb 20 (PTI) A 17-year-old boy died after he allegedly jumped in front of a moving metro train at Uttam Nagar East metro station on Friday, an official said.
The police received information about the incident, which occurred at 11:07 a.m., from the station dispatcher about a person who jumped in front of an approaching train, he said.
“Teneger jumped onto the tracks from platform no.1 and was crushed under the train coming from Dwarka side,” said a police officer.
After the incident, metro staff and security personnel took the boy out of the dormitory, the officer added.
The deceased, identified as Ashwini Dagar, was a resident of Najafgarh. He had recently completed Class 12 and was preparing for competitive exams at a coaching center in Uttam Nagar, police said.
Preliminary investigation indicated that he was upset over a personal matter. He was the only child of his parents and his father works as a contract driver with Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), police added.
“The body has been taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital for post-mortem,” the officer added.
An investigation has been initiated and further investigations are underway, the police added.
Senior officers of the Metro unit have also visited the place and the matter is being investigated from all sides.
