(Reuters) -A fire -armed group that controls part of Western Sudan on Tuesday asked for international assistance in gaining bodies and rescue residents from torrential rain after at least 1,000 people in a landslide that erased the mountain village was killed.
The destruction of the village of Tarseen in the mountain area Jebel Marra in the Darfur area survived only one person, said the Sudan liberation movement/army.
SLM/A, which has long checked and managed the autonomous part of the Jebel Marry, referred to the UN agencies and international assistance to help collect the bodies of victims, including men, women and children.
“Tarseen, known for its citrus production, has now been completely balanced to the ground,” the group said in a statement.
“The villagers in the area are amazed by the fear that it could be affected by the fate if … torrential precipitation persists, which underlines the urgent need for a complex evacuation plan and the provision of emergency hiding,” said Abdelwahid Mohamed Nur’s leader in a separate appeal.
SLM/and remained neutral in the battle between the main enemies in the Sudan Civil War, the Sudan Army and the paramilitary rapid support force. Both enemies are fighting to control over al-Fashir, near the capital of North Darfur State, which is besieged by RSF and suffered famine.
