Former Australian footballer Stuart MacGill is at the center of controversy after a heated exchange on the Cricket Unfiltered podcast with Andrew Menczel. What started as a discussion about Candice Warner, David Warner’s wife, and the abuse she faced in South Africa during the infamous 2018 Test series quickly escalated into one of the most uncomfortable moments on air.
During a portion of the podcast, host Andrew Menczel criticized the crowd’s taunts aimed at Candice during Australia’s 2018 tour of South Africawhere fans wore masks of New Zealand professional boxer Sonny Bill Williams, with whom Candice was photographed in a compromising situation in the men’s room in 2007.
Menczel described this behavior as shameful and far beyond acceptable limits. However, MacGill objected to rehashing the specifics of the incident and the discussion quickly escalated. What began as a disagreement over media responsibilities soon turned into a personal confrontation.
He interrupted his co-host, MacGill argued that specifying the abuse was unnecessaryaccusing Menzel of perpetuating the problem by bringing it up again. This exchange stunned the audience as the debate drifted away from the original topic and descended into sharp personal insults.
MacGill interrupted Menzel and said, “Well, I think there’s not much to talk about for a start, Menners. I don’t think you need to go into detail here. I think it’s s*. You’re a bloody idiot. You shouldn’t go into detail about things like that, because you’re doing exactly the same thing as the mob. OK. We’re not going to talk about that anymore.”
Stuart MacGill is absolutely losing it to his co-host on the podcast, he had a good idea but the way he went about it is unbelievable, at one point he almost threatened to punch him. pic.twitter.com/F3FbmsvZDl— Ghumman (@emclub77) March 3, 2026
MacGill threatened physical violence
MacGill was clearly unhappy with the direction of the discussion and urged Menzel to respect the players and their families. He claimed that the podcaster behaved no differently than the South African crowd and pointed out that Candice is his close friend. He went on to call Menzel a “pig’s head” and a “fool” and angrily demanded that he move on to the next topic of discussion.
MacGill further escalated the confrontation by warning that if any part of the exchange was redacted, it would mean the end of his working relationship with Menczel. At one stage he also made a remark suggesting physical aggression, saying he might “jump over the microphone”. Finally, when the situation seemed to be getting out of control, Menczel quickly wrapped up and ended the segment.
Meanwhile, an ugly confrontation between the two erupted online, with fans criticizing MacGill for his behavior on the podcast. Many called out what they described as aggressive behavior, particularly his threatening language towards the host.
