On Monday (June 16, 2025), heavy rain continued in the districts of Kannur and Kasaragod in Kerala, which made the authorities declare holidays for all educational institutions, including universities, professional institutions, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Madrasas, Anganwadis and special classes.
This step followed after a red warning issued by the Indian meteorological department (IMD), which predicts extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 204.4 mm within 24 hours.
Intermittent showers continued through Manjeswaam, Kasaragod, Hosdurg and Vellarikund Taluks of Kasaragod. The district administration opened the embossed camp in the Government LP School in the village of Maloth in Vellarikund, where 37 people from 10 families were protected. There are 18 men, 19 women, including two pregnant women, six older people and two children. No victims or serious incidents have been reported yet.
The authorities remain on high readiness like water levels in Manjeswaam, Puthige, Madhur and Sprapped River Gauge Stations on Monday morning exceeded danger.
In Kannura, heavy rains led in the catchment area to open 13 out of 16 Pazhassi fire closures after the region received 152.20 mm with 7:00 pm rising water levels immersed the Venayikadav bridge in Payyavoor and the flooded pads of the Chengalam fields. In Kadavathur, Maherivera’s flood banks broke and entered the city.
