The heavy rain accompanied by strong winds since Monday evening caused extensive damage in northern districts, flooding of houses and roads, exploitation of trees, infrastructure damage and life disruption. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday was released by Red Alert for Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad and Kozhikode; Orange warning for Palakkad, Malappuram and Thrissur; and yellow alerts for IDUKKI, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Alappuzha and Pathanamthita.
The heavy rain fired different parts of the region. According to officials, extensive water contamination was reported in several city centers, which significantly affected the daily life and transport in northern Kerala.
On Tuesday after heavy rain, part of the national road of the national highway in construction near Mavungal Chemmattamvayal collapsed. The traffic stopped and was diverted by a narrow path, which led to a serious overload. The authorities launched a probe into the collapse of the road, although people demanded urgent steps to repair the road.
Damage of service roads in heavy rain in the Thrissur district resulted in serious traffic jams along the national highway 544, especially along the Mannha – Wadakkanchery section. The worst section is near Vazukumpar, near Kuthiran tunnels.
Asked about the cave in the part of the elevated National Motorway in Koriyad and similar incidents in Kannura, Kasaragod and Thrissur, Mr. Vijayan in Kozhikode said that Detailed Discussions would take place. “It is an unfortunate incident. It is necessary to find out whether the construction of the road is in line with the geographical nature of this region and whether there has been any forfeiture. All steps will be taken to complete the work,” he stressed.
In Kannura, 125.4 mm rains were recorded, paralyzing life when the flood waters entered the houses and submerged roads. The supply of the basic goods was disturbed and the movement of the vehicle remained thin. Construction activities stopped and participation in government offices was thin in the Kannur district.
One death
Go from Koyilanda near the port of Vellayil, which results in the death of a person from Nadakkav in the Kozhikode district. Another fiber fishing boat inverted near Kothi bridge, although no losses were reported. Property damage was reported from Mukkama and Thamarassery. The heavy rain in the forest near Kohranchery led to lightning floods and an increase in water levels in the Iruvazhinji River.
According to the Office for the Catastrophery Adaster in Kerala (KSDMA), the chances of landslides and landslides may increase during the rain, especially in hilly areas. The authorities urged public and government authorities to assess extreme caution.
Officials issued security counseling and urged people living in hilly areas who experienced heavy rains, especially people who are endangered by landslides, mud and lightning floods to move to safer places as soon as possible, first during daylight. The inhabitants of low -laid areas susceptible to waterlogging should assess the situation and move to nearby relief camps or safer shelters if necessary, they added.
The government asked all of them to stay on alert and carefully adhere to official updates as the weather situation develops.
