Strong preventive measures against Ebola in place: minister
Health Minister K. Muraleedharan said here that the state had already put in place strong preventive measures against Ebola in line with the guidelines issued by the World Health Organization and the Union Health Ministry as soon as reports of Ebola from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and South Sudan began to emerge.
He said medical personnel with special training had been deployed at all four airports and major ports to screen travelers from Ebola-affected countries for symptoms, travel history or possible exposure to an infected person. Anyone showing symptoms is required to undergo a mandatory 21-day quarantine and is under the supervision of local health authorities
*The person in Kottayam who developed symptoms was immediately shifted to the district isolation facility for observation and was medically examined,” he said.
Isolation and quarantine facilities have been set up in all 14 districts to provide medical care to travelers arriving from Ebola-affected countries who develop symptoms. Necessary equipment and training of medical staff were also provided.
So far, 206 travelers from Ebola-affected countries have arrived in Kerala. 74 of them are currently in home quarantine. Another 75 either completed quarantine or left the state, while 57 were cross-notified to other states
