
Panel of experts under the Ministry of the Environment, Forest and Climate Changes (MOEF), which recently granted the final permission of the proposed project Kalladi-Mepadi Tunnel Road, which set strict standards for the project to direct the four-member committee recommended by the district collector.
The inspection report will have to be submitted every six months after the start of work.
“The announcement of the final check -in will be out within a week, which will help us go to the construction phase. The formal construction agreement will be signed after the final permit,” said Mla Linto Joseph.
During the final permit, he laid 60 conditions to reduce the environmental impact and deal with concerns raised by various green bodies on natural disasters in environmentally sensitive areas.
“The standards set by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research and the Central Institute for Mining and Research will have to be strictly followed at the workplace. Also, the proposals of various government panels related to geology, the environment and mining will also have to be considered such,” Joseph said. There is also a proposal for the establishment of four ground monitoring stations for constant assessment of the impact of work, he added.
Another major condition is to ensure proper protection of biodiversity in the project. The construction company will have to ensure that the flow of the Iruvazhinji River is not interrupted. The company will also be responsible for careful monitoring of air quality in the constructed tunnel.
The 2 134 GBP project will be completed in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Work, the Kerala Investment Investment Investment Fund and KONKAN Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL). The bid process has already been completed for a project that will be implemented by Bhopal Dilip Buildcon Limited and Royal Infrastructure based in Kolkota.
