Stree Shakti, Divyang Shakti schemes have increased occupancy rate of APSRTC, says minister

Transport, Youth and Sports Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy said that the series of reforms and welfare measures implemented by the TDP-led NDA government in Andhra Pradesh Public Transport Department (APPTD) and AP State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) have received positive response.

Addressing the media at the Secretariat on Monday, the minister highlighted the success of the Stree Shakti and Divyang Shakti schemes, which have benefited 73.62 million passengers and 38.22 million PWDs since their launch. Occupancy ratio of APSRTC has increased from 69% to 92% due to these two initiatives, he said.

APSRTC has focused on upgrading equipment at bus stations, improving operational efficiency, introducing 1,489 new buses and seeing a decline in accidents. The minister said that the punctuality of departures has increased from 90% to 96%, while the punctuality of arrivals has improved from 79% to 88%.

The minister said non-travel box revenue rose to ₹ 404.22 crore, while logistics revenue stood at ₹ 227 crore. Between June 2024 and March 2026, the company repaid loans and interest of ₹1,240 crore. The minister said the transport ministry’s revenue reached ₹ 5,050.35 crore in 2025-26, while vehicle sales rose to 9.81 million units, reflecting growth in the industry.

The minister also mentioned that support has been extended to autorickshaw and taxi drivers. During 2025-26, financial assistance of ₹ 436 crore has been provided to 2.9 crore beneficiaries, he said.

Speaking about the government’s plans for the future, the minister said that 8,321 electric buses will be introduced in the coming years.

Employee welfare continues to be a top priority, he said, adding that measures such as lifelong health services under the Employee Health Scheme (EHS), 1,780 compassionate appointments, health and accident insurance coverage, promotions and rewards have been put in place to improve employee well-being.
