The lost threat of dogs in Thrissur has reached an alarming proportion, increasing attacks that people, especially pedestrians, on the edge. Dog packages roam on the streets, chase passers -by and engage in frequent fighting, despite repeated complaints to the authorities.
According to the official records of Thrissur District, only 29,363 cases of dog bites announced only in 2024.
The crisis became shocking on Wednesday evening in the KSEB office in Kootale when a stray dog entered the house and attacked a 72 -year -old nirmal and interrupted his finger. Witnesses said she was sitting on her porch as the animal threw on her and clamping her jaws on her left hand. The family members tried to release the dog, but not before it caused two fractures.
Nirmala was rushed to the Cherpa family center for initial vaccination against Rabies, then referred to the General Hospital, Thrissur and later to the private hospital for emergency operations.
With disturbing watching, it is believed that the same dog attacked a 15 -year -old boy a few minutes later at the Family Health Center and injured a nurse in chaos. The animal was not found, which made the warning that the inhabitants remain vigilant.
While the threat is growing, the effort to expand the operations of animal contraception (ABC) across Thrissur is tightened in public opposition. Planned centers in Chalakuda, Velangallur and Wadakkanchery were eliminated after the residents protested, quoted concerns about constant barking and disgusting odor.
Panchayat district officials claim that ABC needs at least 50 cents – or 25 cents in special cases – and are ready to buy private land if offered. Yet community resistance is the main obstacle.
Currently, the only ABC Operational Center is under Thrissur Corporation in Paravattani. Of the five planned new centers, construction began only in two places – Mala and Chavakkad – with the Chavakkad facility.
When the crazy dog attacks on Mount and Control measures stop, public health experts warn that without an urgent action Thrissur’s threat could be a spiral of the spiral into a full safety crisis.
