
The city company in Delhi (MCD) announced plans for the construction of dog shelters in all 12 of its civic zones and introduced the residents reserved for help to report stray animals. This step is governed by the recent observations of the Supreme Court, which have been held by local authorities responsible for long -term inactivity in solving the population of the vicious dogs of the National Capital.
What caused new MCD measures?
The Supreme Court is currently hearing petitions calling on an earlier directive on relocating stray dogs to shelters. During Thursday hearing, the bench noted that the “whole problem” in Delhi-NCR stems from the failure of the civil authorities. The court reserved its judgment on this matter.
Mayor of Raja IQBal Singh reaffirmed the obligation of the civic body to proceed to the court while maintaining humane treatment of animals. “We will do our best to solve this problem. At the same time, we are also worried about the well -being of animals,” he said.
The chairman of the Permanent Committee of the Satya Sharma noted that although shelter is being built, this process prevents challenges in the allocation of land.
How will the stray dogs work in Delhi-NCR?
The new help line will allow residents to inform MCD about stray dogs in their locations. After receiving the call, urban teams will pick up animals. More NGOs (NGOs) are also included in the acceleration of sterilization and vaccination units.
What do the numbers of dog bite say in Delhi-NCR?
MCD officials report that on average 10,000 dogs are sterilized and vaccinated every month. In the period from January to June 2025, more than 65,000 wandered. The aim of the civic body is to cover almost 98,000 dogs from April 2024 to December 2025 after 79,959 in 2023–24 and 59,076 in 2022–23.
