A stray dog died when a crude bomb left by suspected poachers accidentally exploded after it tried to bite it on the railway tracks at Kothagudem railway station in Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Wednesday.
It was suspected that the bomb, hidden in a cloth bag, was thrown into the dustbin at the railway station in the morning by unknown persons, considered poachers.
Sources said a stray dog took the bag to the railway tracks where it tried to bite the crude bomb, which led to the explosion and his death on the spot.
The local police, along with the Government Railway Police, examined the site of the incident and thoroughly checked the surrounding areas. The police ruled out sabotage.
A case has been registered and an investigation is underway to identify and trace the persons who threw the crude bomb into the dustbin.
