The leader of the Shashi Tharoor congress questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi-Moded to decide the government of sending the Minister of Junior external affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh to represent the country at peace summit in Egypt, gathering the heads of at least 27 countries.
In the paper on X, Tharoor, he asked whether the Indian representation reflected the attitude of the “strategic restriction or missed opportunities” on the decisive international forum.
“The Indian presence at the Sharm El-Sheikh Gaz Peace Summit at the Foreign Minister’s level is in sharp contrast to the heads of the state that gathered there. Strategic restrictions or missed opportunities?” Tharoor wrote.
His notes followed the announcement of Kirti Vardhan Singho about his arrival in Cairo in Egypt, as a special representative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to participate in the peace summit in Gaza.
Tharoor, a member of the Congress Parliament, explained that his notes were “no reflection on Kirti Vardhan Singh, whose competence is not questioned,” but stressed that the extent and position of the summit required representation of a higher level from India.
“Given the galaxy of the scurhes, the Indian option can be considered as a signaling of preference for a strategic distance that our statements do not make,” Tharoor said.
The Indian presence at Sharm El-Sheikh Gaza Peace, at the level of Foreign Minister, stands in sharp contrast to the heads of states that gathered there.
Tharoor added that the level of protocol and approach could have an impact on the weight of India in shaping discussions on critical issues such as Gaza reconstruction and long -term regional peace.
“And because of the approach to the protocol itself, the Indian voice on the summit on reconstruction and regional stability can carry less weight than it could have. In the region that transforms itself, our relative absence is mysterious,” Tharoor concluded.
