India’s badminton ace Olympic medalist PV Sindhu has revealed that an explosion occurred near where she and her team were hiding at the Dubai airport after she was stranded due to ongoing attacks in the region linked to Iran. She described the moment as extremely tense and scary, adding that her coach had to quickly move away after being closest to the smoke and debris.
Sindhu said the group has since been moved to a safer location and credited Dubai airport authorities and the Indian High Commission for their prompt support during the unfolding crisis. As the uncertainty continues, she shared a post about the experience on her X account, while also updating that she is now trying to rest while hoping things will settle down.
“The suffering continues and the situation is getting more terrifying by the hour. A few hours ago there was an explosion near where we were holed up at the airport. My coach had to quickly run out of the area because he was closest to the smoke and debris. It was an extremely tense and scary moment for all of us,” she wrote.
“We are all safe now and thanks to the tireless efforts of the staff at Dubai Airport and the Dubai authorities, we have been moved to a safer location. A special thanks also goes to the Indian High Commissioner in Dubai for their incredible support and continued assistance in helping to keep us safe. For now, we are trying to rest and hold on to hope as we wait for things to settle down,” she added.
HOW PV SINDHU WOVEN IN DUBAI
Sindhu was on her way to Birmingham for the All England Open, which was scheduled to begin on Tuesday, with Dubai as a transit stop. But the region’s rapidly escalating conflict brought air traffic to a sudden halt, leaving one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs paralyzed and thousands of passengers – including a two-time Olympic medalist – stranded with no indication of when they would be able to move.
Earlier, Sindhu shared visuals from the airport on Instagram and noted that all flights have been suspended until further notice. The update quickly gained attention and highlighted how the ripple effects of geopolitical tensions are being felt far beyond the conflict zone. Dubai Airports later confirmed that operations at both Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport were suspended and advised passengers to avoid heading to the terminals.
