The State Council for Electricity Keral (KSEB) will involve experts from the CSIR-Ccentral Institute of Mining and Research Research (CIMFR) to solve problems related to the thickness of the upper hydroelectric project Sengulam. The brewing operations for the construction of the Tunnel for the Hydel project were stopped on February 17 this year after the locals raised concerns about safety. Although the meetings were held at Panchayat, the problem was not solved.
KSEB hopes that CIMFR experts can design a blasting formula that will allow the work to continue. The tunnel is an important part of the Hydel project, any delay in construction will affect the progress of the project, the KSEB noted.
The project area falls within the Idukki district. The 24 MW project will use excess water available in Sengulam Balancing Reservoir after commissioning Sengulam Augmentation Scheme and 60 MW Falllivazal extension. PGCCPL and Aryacon consortium has received contracts for civil and hydromechanical work.
