
An apartment complex located in Gandhinagar Housing Colony, Kadavanthra, which received a power disconnection notice from the Kerala State Electricity Board for not having a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), said it was not under the purview of the Kerala State Pollution Control Board.
The apartment complex was among the 71 complexes that came under the board’s scanner for not having an STP as per norms.
In their reply dated October 11, 2025, representatives of Mayura Apartments at 3rd Cross Road, Gandhi Nagar Housing Colony, Kadavanthra pointed out that only high-rise buildings and residential apartments with a built-up area of 2,000 sq m or more were required to obtain approval as per the circular issued by the Board on April 22. built up with an area of only 1335.10 m2, she said.
The 12-unit condo was built 27 years ago on a 27-cent lot. Adequate liquid waste treatment facilities are maintained in the complex, with the waste water being discharged through an internal sewage system to an underground seepage pit and then to the Kochi Municipal Sewerage Corporation, the reply said. The association said that due to the lack of space and the limited number of residents, it is not possible to install a modern wastewater treatment plant.
