After 2003, about 10 elections took place and until then all the cards were valid. “In the case of the urgency at the start of the process in June-July, it connects it with the elections,” he said, adding that the exercise could be performed after the next election (Bihar). The attempt to press the process in two to three months led to several errors, Mr. Singhvi said.
Mr. Singhvi said that Sir had become a process of establishing citizenship and asked whether the election commission was entitled to do so. He quoted the judgment of the Supreme Court of 1995, who said that a detailed legal provision should be followed to take away the citizenship of someone.
Mr. Bhattacharya said that the statement of EC “Selfratulation” confirms the party’s concerns. After the start of the process, the number of possible deletions from the voter list continued to increase and now it was about 65 lakhs, he said. Opposition parties have marked concern about two alleged crore deletions.
“ES has made one very misleading and false claim that it shared political parties. We got information about the level of the block level on the waiting forms that were not submitted … If the details were shared with us, we could before the proposal …” Mr. Bhattacharya said. He also asked if the summary revision of the EC held in January 2025 was wrong and whether the 22 MAKH death was right.
He described this as the greatest exercise “degradation from independence”, Mr. Jha said that EC did not consult political parties to Sir. People whose names would be deleted were not given the right to appeal. “Nepaceity has become a characteristic feature of your (EC) functioning,” he said.
No consultation with political parties was carried out before SIR exercise, he said Basa. He searched for details of the survey based on what the process was performed for.
