The State Secretary of the CPI (M) V. Srinivasa Rao urged the state government to stop the acquisition of land for industrial development. He pointed out a large but unused land bank held in the state of industrial infrastructure Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC).
In a telephone interview with Hindu in May, Mr. Rao said: “Although the APIIC controls 1.44 lakh acres of land and has already assigned 1 lakh acres to different companies, even ten years later, many companies have failed to establish a sector.
He emphasized how many corporate companies gained land in Visakhapatnam under the pretext of creating job opportunities, but could not fulfill their promises and dupping of the government. It is of the opinion that the government should promote small industries in a large way. He said “It’s a small industry that can create a considerable job in rural and radius areas.”
He criticized the introduction of new working codes that replaced earlier work actions. He stressed that codes could not protect the rights and well -being of workers across the country. He said, “Working codes prefer companies and interests of business. Workers have lost several benefits they had enjoyed before.”
