State Union Home Minister and Karimnagar Bandi MP Sanjay Kumar accused the Congress and BRS of “misleading” people and accusing the Center of covering up their “failure” to allocate water in the Krishna river.
In a statement released on Friday, he said both parties should apologize for the injustice done to Telangana and work to ensure its rightful share. The minister said that the Modi government had issued fresh terms of reference for the tribunal in October 2023 to scientifically redistribute the waters of the Krishna basin as the Bachawat tribunal had failed to do justice to Telangana.
He alleged that the KCR government had “deliberately” helped Andhra Pradesh, causing huge injustice to Telangana. Of the 811 tmc of Krishna water, TG was to receive 555 tmc, but KCR agreed to settle for 299 tmc during the Apex Council meeting on 19 June 2015.
Even when AP started building the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Project, harming the interests of TG, KCR did nothing but he, the then BJP state president, convinced the Center to stop the project. The former CM even skipped Apex Council meetings, sought adjournments and delayed the Centre’s plan to set up a new tribunal for 8 years citing Supreme Court cases to help AP, he alleged.
Regarding the Palamuru-Rangareddy project, the BJP leader said the detailed project report (DPR) was returned as the state did not provide complete details of water usage. He confirmed that the Center is ready to cooperate if the TG government corrects its “mistakes” by sending a revised report with proper information as per the guidelines. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s promise to secure 60% funds from the Center without submitting a proper DPR is “laughable”.
Criticizing Congress and BRS leaders, Mr. Sanjay said their remarks on the Palamuru-Rangareddy project showed “ignorance”. Congress and BRS used to hurl ‘lies’ and ‘blames’ at the Center to hide their mistakes in allocating water to Krishna. Using the assembly for “selfish political gains” instead of solving public problems is “shameful”, he added.
