Belagavi district police are taking steps to ensure peaceful Holi celebrations across the district.
Police officers held meetings with leaders of Hindu and Muslim organizations in various villages to ensure that Ramzan prayers and Holi processions were conducted peacefully.
Officers held meetings in Belagavi celebrating Holi in public places. Tight police security is in place at places like Vaccine Depot and Lele Grounds, where public celebrations are scheduled on two different days.
Boras Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao urged people to celebrate the festival with care and caution and in such a way that it does not disturb students going for exams.
He urged the youth to get permission to use sound systems and be careful during Kam Dahan. He encouraged people to use natural colors.
He warned the crowds not to get drunk or use weapons. He said more than 1,000 policemen and officers and 250 home guards, seven squads of KSRP, 10 units of CAR, SDRF, fire and rescue services are on duty.
Vigilance checkpoints have been set up at 19 locations and 500 CCTV cameras, body cameras and handheld cameras are in use.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan banned sale, transportation and purchase of liquor during Holi celebrations.
