Statements of Tummala and Anil Yadav recorded in the wiretap case
The probe into the alleged phone tapping case that has created a political controversy in Telangana gathered pace on Saturday with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) recording the statements of Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao and Congress MP Anil Kumar Yadav.
According to sources, the police informed Mr. Tummala about the tapping of his phone ahead of the 2023 parliamentary elections and showed technical evidence of the phone tapping. They recorded a statement as to why his phone could be tapped and whether he had any doubts.
Similarly, the SIT officials also submitted technical evidence to Rajya Sabha member Anil Kumar Yadav that his phone was seized during the tenure of the previous government and recorded his statement on the matter. Police officials also shared details of the dates and times when the alleged wiretapping took place.
Mr Anil Yadav later told reporters that the SIT had also confirmed that the phone of his father and former MP Anjan Kumar Yadav was also being monitored. Considering his age and health, the officials decided to visit his residence to record his statement instead of summoning him to the SIT office.
He said investigators showed him key evidence related to the alleged wiretapping of his phone conversations. “The engineers as well as those who did the surveillance should be identified and punished according to law,” Mr. Yadav said.
