Karnataka is ready to set up more power substations wherever suitable land is available to strengthen power distribution and ensure reliable supply across regions, Power Minister KJ George said on Monday.
After inaugurating the 110/11kV power substation constructed by Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) at Sulekere village (Aggunda) in Arsikere taluk of Hassan district, the minister said, “However, the state has enough electricity. To ensure reliable distribution, we have already taken steps to build 100 plots, additional plots are required, provided new substations are set up as per requirement.”
He noted that under the KUSUM-C scheme, the solar farm power supply government provided uninterrupted daily power for irrigation pump sets. Under the Niranthara Jyothi scheme, officials have been directed to ensure stable single-phase power supply for domestic use. The minister also mentioned that the Akrama-Sakrama scheme is being introduced to legalize the unauthorized connection of agricultural power. “When our government took office, there were about 4.5 million applications pending. Cabinet discussed a permanent solution and more than 3 million pumping sets have already been legalised,” Mr George added.
