New Delhi: Minister of Oil and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, said on Friday that state oil refiners are hovering offers for 42 kiloton per year green hydrogen capacities and a tender for another 128 kilotons will be issued.
Acceptance to the Social Media Platform X After the consultation of the Parties, the Minister stated that these initiatives will be carried out at estimated costs of £2 trillion.
He also said that nine research and development (R&D) or demo plants are under construction and four were commissioned by Indian Oil Corp. LTD (IOCL), Gail India Ltd, Hindustan Petroleum Corp. LTD (HPCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corp. LTD (BPCL).
“The refinery hovered 42 KTPA offers, while the dog refinery will be released by 128 additional 128 on the basis of the outcome of these offers. These initiatives will be introduced at estimated costs £2,00,000 Crores, ”he wrote.
Alternative energy sources play an important role in the Indian search towards the transition of green energy, Puri added.
“In an engaging interaction with a large number of participating pages of the green hydrogen sector, we discussed efforts in all four verticals of the rapidly developing sector – production, transport, storage and application,” he said.
Green hydrogen, produced by renewable energy, can directly replace the raw material derived from fossil fuels for oil refin, fertilizer production and steel production.
Oil refining is a focused area for the adoption of green hydrogen to replace gray hydrogen. In India, about 5 million metric tons (MMT) of gray hydrogen are consumed every year, with about 99% used in oil refinement and for the production of ammonia for fertilizers.
On 30 May, the state operated IOCL completed balanced hydrogen costs for setting 10,000 tonnes per year for the production of green hydrogen in its refinery Panipat and Petrochemical complex.
In its statement, the company stated that the Indian Oil input was marked into the green hydrogen space with the largest green hydrogen project in India. Green hydrogen planned for commissioning until December 2027, replacing hydrogen derived from fossils in refiner operations, which will lead to a significant reduction in carbon emissions.
In April, BPCL commissioned a 5 MW green hydrogen race in the Bina refinery in Madhya Pradesh. The equipment is expected to produce more than 780 tons of hydrogen per year.
