
The state government has decided to extend the tenure of state police chief Ravada A. Chandrasekhar by one year. The decision received the nod of the state cabinet on Saturday.
Mr. Chandrasekhar was to retire on June 30, 2026. He will now serve till June 20, 2027.
The 1991-batch IPS officer, who is the state’s 41st police chief, replaced Shaik Darvesh Saheb in July 2025.
Another major government decision
The Cabinet has approved the formation of ‘Sushakti’ Self Help Societies under the Kerala State Handicapped Persons Welfare Corporation Ltd. The groups are meant for the upliftment and empowerment of differently-abled individuals, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s office said.
The Cabinet also decided to conditionally lease 5,159 hectares of land to Malabar International Port and SEZ Ltd. in order to expand Azheekal Port.
A new district fingerprinting office will be set up in Kannur rural police district, the only police district that does not yet have one. The cabinet also decided to approve four new posts for the presidency.
It also agreed to call for tenders for the water supply extension scheme for Kochi city and adjoining panchayats for ₹27.36 crore.
