Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Danasari Anasuya (Seethakka) said the state government plans to provide global marketing facilities for products made by rural women.
She was addressing the state-wide conference of Mandal Federations of Self-Help Group (SHG) presidents held at Praja Bhavan here on Saturday,
Ms. Seethakka said the government was working to empower women and would organize large-scale programs across the state on the occasion of Indira Gandhi’s birth anniversary on November 19. The minister also announced that special uniforms would be provided to members of SHGs.
“With SHG membership, the common woman’s existence becomes stronger and the state’s economy is strengthened by their participation,” Seethakka said, adding that the government is providing marketing opportunities for rural women’s products internationally and bringing them to the global market.
The minister highlighted the success of Ippapuvva (Mahua) laddus made by Adilabad Adivasi women, which is gaining popularity abroad. She highlighted the government’s focus on providing a global market for local products, citing the expansion of Indira Mahila Shakti Bazaars to ensure national and international recognition for rural women’s products.
Ms. Seethakka made a pledge to women’s organizations that focused on social responsibility, including marrying off girls only after 21 years, educating every girl, opposing violence against women and eradicating untouchability.
Ms. Seethakka later held a meeting with the DRDO and other DRDOs to review the Indira Mahila Shakti programs and provide suggestions to strengthen them.
State Commission for Women Chairperson Nerella Sharada, State Cooperative Development Corporation Chairperson Bandru Shobharani, SERP CEO Divya Devarajan and other officials attended the conference.
