Home Minister G. Parameshwara said on Friday that the Karnataka government has taken all measures to maintain law and order and officers have been told to intensify gathering key information about possible incidents in advance and take appropriate action.
Dr. Parameshwara, in his written reply to the debate on the law and order situation in the state in the legislature, said that the policemen have been told to deploy Hoysala vehicles for round-the-clock patrolling to keep an eye on rowdy elements. Besides, the police were keeping an eye on people trying to incite violence using social media platforms, the minister said.
During the debate on the issue, BJP officials had alleged corruption in the posting of police officers. In response, the minister stated that the police constitutive council handles the transfer of police officers.
In response to allegations of inmates using various facilities, Dr. Parameshwara said his department has taken steps to procure more security tools, CCTV cameras and baggage scanners to be used in jails to stop unauthorized activities.
The department would set up a command center at the jail department headquarters in Bengaluru from where CCTV footage from all jails in the state could be monitored.
Digital Capture Cases
The minister said that as many as 1,314 cases of digital arrest have been reported in the state since 2023. The victims lost more than ₹312 million, the police recovered valuables worth over ₹24.86 million and the money returned to the victims was ₹18.33 million.
The police cracked down on accounts active on Facebook, Telegram and other platforms through which the accused cheated. As many as 268 Facebook accounts, 456 Telegram accounts, 15 Instagram accounts and 61 WhatsApp accounts were deactivated.
The public, the minister said, could register their complaints of economic crimes on the 1930 hotline or the NCRP portal.
According to him, the number of crimes committed against women and children did not increase this year compared to previous years.
He said the E-beat system has been introduced across the state. The department created 30 posts of additional SPs for crime prevention and introduced a door-to-door police program.
