The state government has approved and ordered to fill 15,000 teaching posts in government primary and secondary schools in the state.
Out of which 6,967 seats were reserved for Kalyana Karnataka cadre and 8,033 seats for non-Kalyana Karnataka cadre.
Up to 8,500 posts are Post Graduate Primary School Teachers (GPT), 4,500 Assistant Master (AM) posts, 900 Primary School Teacher (PST) posts, 600 Physical Education Teacher (PET) posts and 500 IT teacher posts. The government has decided to fill these posts in 2026-27.
Language skills
However, the Kannada Development Authority (KDA) has raised objections to the government’s decision to mandate English proficiency tests during recruitment.
In his letter to the Chief Minister, Purushottama Bilimale, KDA president, has demanded that the English Language Proficiency Test be waived in the ongoing recruitment process of 15,000 teachers by the Education Department.
“The decision to do away with the recruitment of Kannada teachers and make the English language proficiency test mandatory for the recruitment of teachers of various subjects is a blow to the Kannada language and language policy of the state,” he argued.
Prof. Bilimale urged the government to provide opportunities for Kannada teaching posts in recruitment and scrap the English language proficiency test.
