State cooperative election authorities proposed the use of electronic voting machines (EVM) in cooperative elections, the Ministry of Cooperation said on Monday (August 11, 2025) in its statement.
On Monday (August 11, 2025), the cooperative election office organized its first consulting meeting with the state cooperative election authorities (SCEA) to develop the mechanism for the election in this sector in a free and fair way.
The meeting was chaired by Devendra Kumar Singh, chairman, cooperative election office, and was attended by the State Commissioners of the State Cooperative Electoral Commissioners from Odisha, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Maharashtra.
“The cooperative election office has so far made 159 elections from March 2024 and is in the process of making another 69 elections,” Mr. Singh said.
The Office for the Cooperative Electoral Office was informed on 11 March 2024 in the exercise of the powers of the Union Government granted by section 45 of the Act on Multiple Cooperative Companies of 2002 and its amendment in 2023.
“The election process in cooperative companies must be streamlined to support transparency,” Singh said.
“Standard manuals and codes of behavior for cooperative elections are needed,” said state co -operative election authorities.
The discussion included matters concerning the framing of the Code of Conducts to attack candidates and for a multi -stage cooperative company; Determination of the upper limit of expenditure to attack candidates; publication Guide for Returning Officers; elections of delegates from member cooperative companies who are members of national cooperative companies; and other agendas received from states. One of the items proposed by the participating election authorities of the State Cooperative Authorities included the introduction of electronic voting machines in the cooperative elections, the Ministry said.
