Starts legal battle against Bidadi project: HDK
Janata Dal (Secular) leader and heavy industries minister HD Kumaraswamy, who attacked the state government for issuing a final notification for 518 acres for the proposed Bidadi Integrated Township project, on Friday announced that he will launch a legal battle against it.
Calling the notification an “anti-farmer” move, the Union minister said he would stand firmly behind the affected farmers and fight for their rights. He claimed that the government’s intention was to facilitate large-scale real estate development under the guise of the township project despite sustained opposition from local farmers for 470 days.
Although the idea was conceived by his government in 2006, the project was scrapped as it also faced opposition then, he added.
Terming Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s earlier statement that there were no farmers in the area as “arrogant and a serious insult”, Mr Kumaraswamy asked the Chief Minister to visit the Bidadi region to understand the landowners whose properties were notified.
The Union Minister invited the Chief Minister to accompany him to the villages in the area and interact directly with the residents. According to him, at least 80% of them are farmers.
