“Skeleton Crew” felt like a breath of fresh air for “Star Wars”: the Amblin-inspired remake that gave the galaxy far, far away its first proper title for an all-ages, kid-friendly adventure.
The show follows a group of pre-teens living on the idyllic suburban Anytown, a US-like planet, who find an old spaceship and venture into the vastness of the galaxy… only to realize it’s so shitty and full of violence. pirates who want to kill them. Desperate to get back home, the kids team up with a jaded middle-aged man with Force abilities named Jod to try to find a way back to their home planet – which, it turns out, is also home to a huge treasure that’s legendary. among pirates.
“Skeleton Crew” expands on what “Star Wars” can and should have been, giving us a story that’s not connected to the larger story, has no cameos of the main older characters, and has a vastly different tone than anything we’ve seen in the galaxy before. far, far away It’s also a show with lots of weird little alien creatures that really make it feel like a galaxy full of wonder.
One of the show’s greatest strengths is Jude Law’s Jod Na Nawood, a Jedi-trained piratical scumbag who is as skilled with a blade and the Force as he is treacherous and has only himself to think about. In the finale, we finally get to know Jod’s backstory and how he was found as a young boy by Jedi on the run after the Purge, but according to a new behind-the-scenes photo, it looks like we almost got a look at Jod. Jedi Master.
Yasmine Al Massri filmed a scene that was cut from the Skeleton Crew finale
Jod Na Nawood is one of the best characters that “Star Wars” has introduced in recent years. He’s a ton of fun to watch and great with kids, but he’s also a silver-tongued pirate willing to betray and sell out anyone he cares about if it means getting some cold, hard credits. Still, there’s something tragic about this guy—who isn’t a pirate masquerading as a Jedi, but is actually quite powerful in the Force—whose entire worldview has been warped by the tragic, cruel death of his master. You see, Jod was training as a Jedi in the time after the purge of Order 66. When he and his master were discovered by Imperial forces, they killed her in front of him.
One thing that is interesting about Joda is that he never takes a bath during the “Skeleton Crew” game. He does some good things, sure, and his story is sad, but it never feels like an excuse or a way to erase his evil deeds. Yet his sad story could have been even sadder. Actress Yasmine Al Massri took to Instagram to share some behind-the-scenes footage of a scene she was set to appear in for “Skeleton Crew,” playing a Jedi — in fact, the first Arab female Jedi. Although she didn’t confirm whether or not she played Jod’s master, the post includes fight training videos, so it would make sense that the cut scene depicted the death of Jod’s master.

It’s unfortunate that the scene was deleted, and given the abysmal ratings for “Skeleton Crew,” it seems unlikely we’ll get more of this story. There is still hope that a flashback to the death of Jod’s unnamed master will make it to the screen if Jod himself returns for more adventures.
