In line with Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin’s announcement that the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam initiative will be expanded, the Tamil Nadu government will launch the second phase of the program on December 12. Chief Minister MK Stalin will formally launch the expansion program during an event at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai on Friday.
The state government is organizing a program called ‘Vellum Thamizh Pengal’ on the day in which it would showcase its achievements in empowering women in the state through various welfare schemes, an official statement said. Among the personalities who would attend the event are Gandhian and social activist Krishnammal Jagannathan and Paralympic medalist Thulasimathi Murugesan.
The CM announced the Kalaignar Mahalir Urimai Thittam on the floor of the Assembly on 27 March 2023 through which a total of 1,13,75,492 beneficiaries were selected in the first phase of the scheme and an amount of ₹1,000 was credited to their bank accounts every month. The Deputy CM announced that the program will be expanded further.
The event titled ‘Vellum Thamizh Pengal’ scheduled on December 12 is expected to witness testimonies of women who have benefited from various welfare schemes including Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam, Nannilam Magalir Nilavudamai Thittam, Vidiyal Payanam, Makkalai Thedi Maruthuth Kgalozhi Vidla and others.
