Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, wrote Narendra Modim on Wednesday, who was looking for an intervention in the question of the sudden abolition of the private quota of Haj Saudi Arabia.
“I am given the understanding that Saudi Arabia has suddenly reduced the Indian quota of Haj; approximately 52,000 Hajian seats set aside for private travel operators Haj was canceled. This sudden decision left many pilgrims who have already completed payments in a state of deep anxiety and uncertainty,” Stalin said in his letter.
The abolition caused considerable anxiety among the thousands of Indian Muslim pilgrims, including many Tamil Nadu, who were eagerly preparing for a pilgrimage, noted.
“Given the severity of this situation, I ask that the matter can be urgently dealt with by the authorities in Saudi Arabia. I am sure that your intervention will restore the haj quota and provide assurances to pilgrims and their families,” he said.
In January 2025, India signed a bilateral agreement with Saudi Arabia and completed a quota of 1,75,025 pilgrims. The quota was divided into a ratio of 70:30 among the state committees of Haj and private tour operators Haj. In accordance with this, the state committees of Haj were assigned 1,22,517 seats, while private operators Haj was assigned to Haj 2025 52,507 seats, Mr. Stalin noted.
