Chief Minister MK Stalin on Wednesday inaugurated the annual Chennai Sangamam — Namma Ooru Thiruvizha 2026 in the city by playing the parai drum along with parai artiste Velu Aasan at the Rajarathinam Stadium in Egmore, Chennai.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Stalin said that Chennai Sangamam has turned into a cluster of artistes. He commanded the talent of artists who performed at the event. Mr. Stalin also congratulated Ms. Kanimozhi who has been continuously coordinating the event for many years.
In the coming years, the DMK government will take more initiatives to promote art and culture, Mr. Stalin said. “Tamil Nadu will win, win, win. Pursuant to the announcement made earlier for the sanction of 60 cents of land lease for 30 years at Valayankulam in Madurai district, Mr. Stalin passed on the orders to Mr. Vel Aasan.
About 1,500 artists will take part in the cultural extravaganza, which is set to take place at 20 venues across the city between January 15 and 18. Ministers MP Saminathan, Ma. Subramanian, PK Sekarbabu, Thangam Thennarasu and TRB Rajaa and senior officials were also present.
