The Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit (SSUS) will provide around six acres at its main campus in Kalady to the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) for setting up a world-class cricket ground along with allied infrastructure and facilities.
A revised master plan for the project was discussed at the Syndicate meeting held on Friday (December 19) ahead of the signing of the MoU with KCA. KS Arun Kumar, a member of the Syndicate, said the cricket body will have the right to use the six-acre land for the development of the stadium and allied infrastructure. He added that the total cost of the project is expected to be around ₹55 crore. KCA management was not available for comment.
The contract is concluded for a period of 33 years. According to the draft contract, KCA will construct/construct a multi-sports facility, including a football field with an athletics track (400m synthetic track). He will build and hand over a sports hostel to the university. KCA will have to meet the costs and expenses incurred for the development of the cricket facilities, which include a first-class cricket ground, grass pitch, office room, players’ and officials’ pavilions, screens, camera towers and indoor and outdoor training facilities.
Mr. Kumar said the facility would accommodate about 100 students. The matters of cricket facilities and planned premises will be under the control of a seven-member management committee. It will have four members representing the university nominated by the vice-chancellor and three members nominated by the KCA.
