SRM University-AP signed an open access agreement with Springer Nature

SRM University Registrar – AP Vinayak Kalluri and delegates from Springer Nature after signing the MoU in the presence of University Librarian and other University officials on Wednesday.

SRM University-AP has entered into an open access agreement with Springer Nature to make research published by its scientists more widely and freely accessible.

The significance of the agreement was explained to the university community at a Wednesday meeting hosted by the University Central Library. Students, researchers and faculty members participated in the program.

The session was addressed by Springer Nature representatives Neeraj Karandikar, Account Development and Events Manager; Rajneesh Appayya, Licensing Manager for Academic and Institutional Partnerships; and Morla Kamakshaiah, Account Manager. University Librarian A. Janakiraman welcomed the delegation and opened the session.

Under the agreement, SRM University-AP will pay Article Processing Charges (APC) for eligible research articles authored by its researchers, allowing them to publish their work under an open access model without incurring publication costs.

Mr Appayya said the agreement followed the Golden Open Access model, whereby published research would be immediately and freely available to readers. He highlighted Springer Nature’s portfolio of journals and publishers, including BMC, Springer, Scientific Reports and Nature Partner Journals, which offer researchers a range of publication options.

Mr. Karandikar explained the publication process, from manuscript submission and peer review to final publication. He clarified that the agreement will not change the journals’ editorial or review procedures and will only take effect after the manuscript is formally accepted for publication. He also explained how researchers can identify journals covered by the agreement and understand the approval process after editorial acceptance.

The interactive session provided an opportunity for faculty members and researchers to raise questions about eligible journals, disciplines, publication schedules, and other aspects of open access arrangements.

University officials said the partnership was part of the institution’s broader effort to increase the global visibility of research emanating from its engineering, science and humanities departments. By facilitating open access to scholarly work, SRM University-AP aims to make research produced on its campus available to a wider international audience and to contribute to the global academic community.
