SRM-AP is starting B.Tech course in Healthcare Engineering

SRM University-AP in association with International Council for Systems Engineering (INCOSE) India on Saturday organized a Healthcare Industry-Academia Dialogue Forum to strengthen industry-academia collaboration and lay the foundation for its new B.Tech. in Health Engineering program, scheduled to begin in August 2026.

The event brought together 13 leaders from India’s healthcare technology, medical device, digital health and research sectors to interact with faculty members, discuss research partnerships and contribute to the development of an industry-oriented curriculum.

Company B.Tech. in Health Engineering is one of the few programs of its kind in India and has been designed to integrate electronics, artificial intelligence (AI), informatics and medical sciences to prepare students for careers in healthcare innovation and medical technology.

The forum was chaired by Founder Head of the Department of Health Engineering and Coordinator of the Biomedical Research and Artificial Intelligence Network (BRAIN) Laboratory, KA Sunitha. Representatives from leading organizations including Philips, Baxter International, Stryker, Medtronic, Evai Technologies, InnAccel, HRS Navigation, ROPODS, AMTZ and RICH participated in the discussion.

Vice Chancellor Ch. Satish Kumar outlined the university’s vision behind the establishment of the Department of Health Engineering and highlighted its expanding research ecosystem, including the internationally renowned Quantum Research Center and collaborations with national and international institutions.

Discussions focused on AI-driven healthcare solutions, teaching methodologies, student internships, industry-sponsored projects, research collaborations and emerging fields such as mental health. Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Sciences CV Tomy and Director of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Srinivasan Thirumalai were also present.

Industry leaders attending the event pledged full support for the development of a robust industry-aligned curriculum and committed to continued collaboration to ensure graduates are equipped with the practical skills to address real-world healthcare challenges.
