Srisailam Temple to celebrate Guru Purnima and Sakambari Utsavam on 29th July

Srisailam Temple has announced special pujas on the auspicious occasions of Guru Purnima and Sakambari Utsavam on July 29 (Wednesday).

According to an official statement, a special puja for Lord Dakshinamurthy and Sage Vyasa will be held at the Akka Mahadevi – Hemareddy Mallamma shrine on the occasion of Guru Purnima on Wednesday in the temple complex at 7:00 AM. The program will begin with the recitation of the Sankalpam (ritual vow) followed by the Maha Ganapathi Puja.

Subsequently, a ceremony involving sixteen ritual offerings to the portraits of Lord Dakshinamurthy and Sage Vyasa will be performed. Sage Vyasa was a divinely ordained being who divided the Vedas—originally a single body of knowledge—into four parts and imparted them to the world.

His original name was Krishna Dvaipayana, but he became famous as Veda Vyasa because he divided the Vedas into four parts. For the sake of the common people who could not understand the deep essence of the Vedas (which are composed in the form of mantras), sage Vyasa wrote the ‘Mahabharata’; subsequently ‘Mahabharata’ came to be known as ‘Panchama Veda’ (Fifth Veda).

Meanwhile, elaborate arrangements have also been made for the Sakambari Utsavam dedicated to Goddess Sri Bhramaramba Devi to be held on Wednesday on the occasion of Ashadha Purnima.

Over 3,000 kg of vegetables, approximately 100 pumpkins, over 2,000 lemons, various bunches of leafy greens and various types of fruit were obtained. Vegetable ornaments are offered to the processional deity, the idol of Goddess Rajarajeshwari in the temple complex and the village deity, Goddess Ankalamma. The scriptures state that worshiping the goddess with vegetables in this way helps avert excessive rains and droughts, ensures timely and adequate rainfall, leads to bountiful harvests and prevents famine.
