The Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple in Srisailam remained closed for most of Tuesday due to the lunar eclipse.
The temple’s managing director M. Srinivasa Rao said the temple was closed from 6 am to 7.30 pm. Before the temple was closed, the priests performed the regular morning rituals. The temple doors were opened at 3 am followed by ‘Mangala Vaidyam’, ‘Suprabhata Seva’ and morning puja.
“Alankara Darshan” of Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy and Ammavaru was allowed between 4.30 am and 5.30 am and the temple was closed at 6 am. All ‘Arjitha Sevas’, ‘paroksha Sevas’ and ‘Kalyanotsavam’ have been canceled and distribution of annaprasadam has also been suspended.
After the completion of the eclipse, the temple reopened at 7.30 pm after performing purification rituals including ‘Samprokshana’ and ‘Mahamanga Harati’. Devotees were given darshan from 9:00 PM to 10:30 PM.
