Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered another setback as their overseas pacer, David Payne, has been ruled out of the IPL 2026 season due to an ankle injury. This development comes on the heels of positive news regarding the expected return of Pat Cummins to the team. Joining SRH as a replacement for Australian all-rounder Jack Edwards, Payne has featured in two matches for the franchise. Despite securing two wickets, his performance was marred by an economy rate of 14.
Payne featured in SRH’s opening day defeat of RCB and their subsequent win against KKR. The team is now expected to look for another replacement to fill the void left by Payne’s absence.

In addition to Payne, England pacer Brydon Carse was also ruled out of the tournament due to a hand injurywhose replacement was Dilshan Madushanka. Meanwhile, SRH have discovered promising bowling in Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussainboth of which impressed in the win against Rajasthan Royals.
