Sree Krishna Jayanti processions part of RSS political project: Jayarajan

CPI(M) leader P. Jayarajan

Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) leader P. Jayarajan has alleged that the Sree Krishna Jayanti processions in Kerala are part of a “political project by the RSS” aimed at expanding its influence among families in the state.

Mr. Jayarajan said the procession tagged ‘Chathaya Dinam’, the birth anniversary of social reformer Sree Narayan Guru, was the only such processions seen on the streets of Kerala earlier.

He claimed that the Sree Krishna Jayanti celebrations were subsequently introduced as part of the RSS’ efforts to build a political base among families. He was speaking in a recent podcast series of the Kannur CPI(M) district committee.

“Belief in Lord Krishna has existed in Kerala for a long time, but lower caste people were not allowed to enter Sree Krishna temples. This continued until the temple entry declaration,” said Mr. Jayarajan, adding that even members of the Nair community face restrictions on temple entry, as pointed out by social reformer Mannath Padmanabhan.

He argued that in this context, the Sree Krishna Jayanti procession should be seen as a political project of the RSS.
