The motor vehicle department (MVD) deployed three coercive units on the Kozhikode-Kuttiad route to monitor private bus operators who are fulfilling the road safety rules and engage in dangerous roads. The event comes as a result of the death of a university student in the oambra after being knocked down by a fast private bus.
MVD sources stated that units will carry out regular lightning checks covering areas susceptible to accidents and report details to higher authorities. They added that buses involved in frequent accidents would be in sight.
Representative of the police superintendent (Perambra) N. Sunil said that on Saturday, July 26, the regulatory committee for transport will be held to discuss and take further measures in the field of traffic safety. Complaints concerning illegal parking and other issues raised by bus operators as reasons for increasing accidents would be discussed, he said.
“Complaints against several owners of the private auditorium for not providing independent parking facilities for guests have already been handed over to the income division,” said Mr. Sunil Kumar.
Given the complaints of bus operators for the “careless operation” of buses for schooling during the top hours of the police, the police said that driving instructors would be asked to use less congested rural roads.
The leading police officer said that the proposal for the certificate of the check-in for private buses for private bus drivers will be strictly introduced on the Kozhikode-Kuttiada route after receiving the government order. “Although buses operators are against the proposed rule, it can become a mandatory requirement from August 2025,” he added.
