As part of the statewide agitation, the All India Democratic Youth Organization (AIDYO) staged a protest in Kalaburagi on Tuesday and urged the state government to speed up recruitment for vacancies in various departments and ensure transparency in the selection process.

The agitators also submitted a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.

Reacting to the protest, AIDYO district president SH Jagannath and district secretary K Eshwar demanded that the state government immediately issue a recruitment notification for the 56,432 posts cleared during the winter session of the legislature in December last year.

They noted that despite the approval given more than six months ago, notifications have been issued only for a limited number of vacancies, while repeated assurances from ministers about the impending recruitment have not materialised.

The delay has created uncertainty among job seekers, many of whom are nearing the upper age limit for government jobs, they added.

The organization also opposed the recent hike in application fees for police recruitment exams, saying the revised fee of ₹750 was an undue burden on unemployed youth.

The organization demanded that the government waive application fees for recruitment exams and provide free transport to candidates appearing for competitive tests.

Expressing concern over reports of irregularities in the recent KAS examination conducted by the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC), the agitators called for a thorough probe and sought the implementation of the PC Hota committee’s recommendations to enhance transparency and accountability in recruitment.

The organization further urged the state government to take strict measures to prevent examination malpractice in tests conducted by both the KPSC and the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA).

Highlighting the shortage of teaching staff in government schools, the organization said more than 79,000 teaching posts remain vacant across the state, including more than 22,500 vacancies in the Kalyana region of Karnataka.

She warned that the ongoing shortage was having an adverse impact on the quality of education and urged immediate recruitment for all teaching vacancies.

AIDYO also demanded that the government publish a comprehensive recruitment calendar, resolve server and technical issues affecting the ongoing police recruitment application process and extend the application deadline to ensure all eligible candidates can apply.

The agitators reiterated that timely recruitment and transparent selection process are essential to tackle unemployment and restore job seekers’ confidence in government commitments.
